North Bay Real Estate & Homes For Sale

North Bay is a city, which is located in the Nipissing District of Ontario province. Interestingly, the city derives its name from its position to Lake Nipissing. The most significant advantage of living in this city is the abundance of natural resources such as lakes, rivers, forests and a waterfall. Located on the shore of Lake Nipissing, it covers an area of 314.9 km²

North Bay was historically known as The Gateway City ! The name was changed to North Bay as a tribute to the first settlers who clustered on the sweeping bay on the shore of Lake Nipissing. The arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1882 opened doors for the development of North Bay. In the same year, John Ferguson considered it a favourable place for settlement. North Bay was designated as a town in the year 1891. Later on, it earned the status of a railway community in 1902 when it was selected as the southern terminus of the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway. The establishment of the Canadian Northern Railway in 1913 helped the city turn out as a railway hub. While constructing the railway line in Cobalt (north of North Bay), silver deposits were discovered. The mining boom and lumbering sector ensured the growth of the area. In August 1925, the town of North Bay was incorporated as a city. Another miracle that boosted the city’s growth was the birth of Quintuplets (5 babies) in the neighbouring settlement of Corbeil in 1934. Many enthusiasts visited the place to have a look at the newborns. This boosted tourism in the area; luckily, these visitors discovered many exciting positions such as lakes and summer retreats which were easily accessible, and many businesses thrived on tourist income. In addition, North Bay played a significant role in the Cold War. The city hosted the Royal Canadian Air Force Station, where Canadian and American North American Aerospace Defence Command forces were based.
