Peterborough Real Estate & Homes for Sale

Peterborough is a city located on the Otonabee River in Ontario, Canada. The city has also named the gateway to the Kawarthas "cottage country," a large recreational region of Ontario. Peterborough is named after Peter Robinson, who is known for organizing the city's migration and settlement. The city is located at an elevation of 195 m and stretches over an area of 64.25 km². In 1821, Adam Scott set up a sawmill and gristmill at the city's site, and the place became famous as Scott's Plains. Later in 1825, around 2000 immigrants settled here, and the town and county were renamed after the group's director, Peter Robinson. Gradually, the city became a commercial and manufacturing centre for the surrounding area and a tourist centre for the Kawartha Lakes region.
